Update 3: An Announcement on kindness

One less worry!
The happy couple watch as work is done on their home!
Willoughby Supply
The materials have arrived!

Willoughby Supply in Maumee, Ohio was our biggest supporter. They either supplied or made arrangements for the supplies for the entire job at no charge to the family!

The photo above was taken of the home while setting up and beginning work!

And the work begins.....

The photo taken to the left features 2 crew members completing the tear off process.

With the old roof off, and prep work done it it time to protect the roof
& lay shingles..........

<-----Old Roof

                                       New Roof----->

The job has gone beautifully and we have loved working with the family. The only glitch that we have hit so far is with the material order and that is being rectified as I type. Fortunatley we got a stretch of good weather in which to handle it, but even if not there are steps that can be taken in situations like that to protect the home. Regardless, we look forward to finishing and are honored to provide #onelessworry

Update 2: An Exciting Announcement on Kindness

I Have a bit of an update, I wish that it was more...
After delaying 2 days due to weather and a minor delivery mixup we are back on target to get the Newton's roof done.
As much as everyone wanted to just push through the weather we could not take any chances with the family's home.
Delivery is now scheduled for Friday afternoon and as soon as we are assured that the weather is clear we will begin tear off.
Thanks again to all of our supporters.
We will update again on Friday!

The Language of a Roof

Many times when people call on us for either a full roof or roof repair they are at a loss for words when trying to describe what they want simply because they don't know some basic terminology! Whether you need a simple repair or have a large project in mind this article should assist you in communicating with your contractor and or supplier.

There are several things to consider when it comes to roof renovation. Pitch is particularly important and is useful information for the contractor to have. Pitch is the steepness of your roof. 1/12 (flat roof)- 12/12 (straight up and down). For example the roof above would most likely be considered a 6/12.

Knowing the square of your roof is also important. 1 square equals 100 square feet. For example if your roof is 4500 square feet it is 45 square. Pitch will also play a factor when calculating the square footage of a roof. The square footage of a home is not an exact reflection of the square footage of a roof. Many websites and apps will do the calculation for you if you know the pitch and square footage.

Roof Sheathing is your decking, OSB. It is laid over the rafters and essentially is the first layer of your roof. Many times this will need replaced when a full roof is done. Roof Felt and ice and water shield is the next layer. it is installed over your decking and must never be left out! This important under layment should always be in place before a job site is left over night.

Lastly, there are many materials besides asphalt that can be installed in your roofing system. This final layer is where you ensure the life of your roof and personalize the look of a home.
