DIY: Most Common Spring Roof Repairs!

With a combination of my experience and a little extra research I pulled some pretty hard numbers regarding spring roof repairs particularly in multi-season regions.
The Chart to the left represents homeowners as a whole. The green (65%) are the fraction of homeowners that suffer some degree of damage to their roof, siding, gutters, etc. throughout the season's various weather circuses. When left untreated it can result in the breakdown of a roof quicker than normal, leading to costly interior damage.
i found that there were 2 main roof repairs that roofing contractors and homeowners alike deal with.

1: ROOF LEAKS AND MOISTURE

The above before and after is a repair that Hunt's Roofing just did and common spots for leaks!

2: BLOW-OFFS, TENTING, REDUCED WIND UPLIFT RESISTANCE, AND BILLOWING

The above before and after are also repairs that Hunt's did. These are very common repairs.
All Repairs shown can be done in under an hour by a professional and will run between $150.00 and $250.00. If these are things that you may be thinking of having done and live in the Toledo are we do all repairs at a rate of $50.00 for the first hour and $45.00 each additional.

An Exciting Announcement on Kindness!!!

I am extremely honored and excited to announce the contribution of a brand new roof awarded to the Newton Family!!! Many of you reading this know the family personally and know what they have been through. I know many of us have loved ones who have faced illness bravely and also know the feeling of helplessness it leaves in it's wake. There are things we can do to make the path clearer!
With the help of Willoughby Supply located here in Toledo and Certainteed Building Products who donated 100% of the material, Hunt's Roofing is donating several crew member's time to get this roof done!
I am looking for volunteers. I only need a handful. If you have experience with roofing that is a bonus, but if not that's ok! If you are interested contact me via this post or email.
Special thanks to Bryan Ramasocky w/ Hunt's Roofing who is donating his time and skill, and to Mike Stoll w/ Willoughby Supply who got the ball rolling for me on the materials!
Looking forward to sharing pics, before and afters, and the whole story with you here!

DIY Roofing Repair Tips

When it comes to simple roof repairs many people make the decision to make a go of it. If you are one of those people here are a couple of helpful things to keep in mind.

1. Safety First. It's not just for kids. Make sure you are familiar with you roofs pitch or steepness. Some roofs require special equipment. Have the proper foot wear, something with a grip. Always be sure the ladder you are using is the correct height. A harness is something to consider. It costs a little extra, but definitely cheaper than a trip to the ER. Never take for granted that you are a distance from the ground. if you are 6' tall it takes less than 12' to do significant damage.

2. The weather. The weather is an obvious thing to consider when you are planning any work to your roof, but be sure to get specific. Plan the weather down to the hour and allow for incidentals. Take into consideration wind speed in your planning especially if you are going beyond 1 story.

3. Find a Possible Leak. If you are worried about a possible leak and have enough hose length, spray the roof in the suspected area. You can use plastic sheeting or roofing paper also known as roofing felt to protect the roof once the leak is detected until you can repair it or call a roofer.

4. All about Maintenance. Once the weather is suitable in your area, once a year there are things you can do to prevent unnecessary costs. Clean all ventilation systems, seal around vents and pipes, paint exposed metals to prevent rust, and of course clean those gutters!

Bringing the Cost of Roofing Down

Getting word out about a new roofing company that will save the homeowners in the Toledo area thousands, Hunt's Roofing, lead to a desire to help home owners all over the country save money with basic information via this blog. We began this company because after 20 years in the industry we were tired of seeing people go into debt to repair their homes.

My partner and I wanted to give people the opportunity to truly see that they did not have to reinvest A large fraction of what the home is worth just keep it from rotting. Today I am gathering competitive quotes that will show this. Many homeowners are going with bigger roofing companies, expecting better quality and often pay 2 - 4 times the necessary price. These bigger roofing companies then turn around and hire a sub for a fraction (small fraction) of the cost. This is throwing homeowners into debt for loans that may not be needed.

I am excited to be able to provide this information. You shouldn't have to pay for peace of mind when it comes to your home. It should come naturally as a result of caring for your investment properly!!!! As we investigate this and I present the facts keep in mind, that while I've done a large percentage of the research, you always want to research prices in your region. Lots of people are not aware that prices vary by region.
